  • Return to this page to prepare for the day
    of your child's first communion!

    • 1.  A week before...

Please don't forget to forward a list of the names and phone numbers of all the people attending this special day to our parish office by email at allsaints@dol.ca at least one week before your child's selected date.

Due to social distancing requirements, only 10 people in total are permitted. Be sure to include the parents and your child in this 10.

Should the guidelines change and we have less restrictions, the seating of your family and guests will change and we will email you.

    • 2.  What to expect and
      what to wear...

You and your guests should arrive at the church 30 minutes before Mass so that we are able to screen everyone and be seated

Everyone over the age of 2 must wear a face covering. Our hospitality team will ask: Have you been outside of the country? Have you been exposed to anyone with COVID 19?

Your child should wear what you consider to be dress clothes or your "Sunday best". Most boys wear dress pants with a shirt and tie or a suit. Girls usually wear white. It is entirely up to you what you choose. It is not necessary to go to any great expense.

      • 5.  there is a smile under the mask!

You may take a photo of your child receiving Communion. If you wish to do this, please designate someone in your group to take this photo. When you arrive we will give directions to this person on where to stand to take a good photo. There will be an opportunity for a family photo to be taken at the end of Mass.

      • God Bless... from all of us!

      • Turn nervousness into excitement!

Depending on your child, they might be excited, nervous, timid, or scared for their First Communion. That's OK and that's normal.

Here are some tips to make the day less nervous and more exciting:

        • Schedule a special event after their First Communion (ice cream, a special toy, etc).
        • Involved the extended family virtually... ask them call or FaceTime when you get home.
        • Reinforce the kindness of our priests. Even if you haven't met them yet, we can confirm they super chill and will make the process easier.
        • Practice the process at home, following along the steps in the video above.
        • Confidence rubs off. If you can be confident and calm, they will pick up on it. After all, it's not a big deal right? Their First Communion shouldn't be their last... so what a great start to prepare together.
        • Re-watch the "Church Tour" video with Fr. Thom!
        • If you have questions about the logistics, please email Julie at jdegouw@dol.ca below or call the office at 519.245.0644.
